Exposed
to the Atlantic swells and with a huge variety of beaches, reefs
and fantastic mountains, few places lend themselves to outdoor
activities and sports as the Outer Hebrides. From extreme sports
to the more sedate, the offerings are plentiful, ranging from
surfing, sailing and canoeing to golf, walking, cycling and fishing,
opportunities are available throughout the islands.
Lewis
is well known for its great surf and surfers from all over the
world annually come to the west coast of the island to experience
some of the best waves driven by the Atlantic Ocean.
There
are five golf courses on the islands ranging from 9-hole courses
in Harris, Benbecula and Barra to the 18-holes available at Askernish
in South Uist and Stornoway. Askernish, an Old Tom Morris designed
course, has recently been redeveloped and life memberships are
available. Welcome to the great outdoors.
